Lights of Love
Celebrate the lives and memories of loved ones by dedicating a Light of Love.
Lights of Love is a heartfelt way to remember and celebrate the life of someone special. By dedicating a light in their memory, you’ll help ensure that people across Worcestershire receive the compassionate care and support they need from St Richard’s Hospice.
As Christmas approaches, many people find comfort in taking part, knowing that the light they dedicate shines as a lasting tribute to someone they hold dear.
To ensure your loved one’s name is displayed on the banners for the lighting of the Lights of Love tree at St Andrew’s Spire and at our Lights of Love services in Worcester Cathedral on 20 November 2026, please submit your dedication online or return your form by 10 November 2026.
Names received after this date will be added to new banners, which will be printed at the beginning of December and again shortly before Christmas.
To have your loved one’s name displayed on the banner at St Andrew’s Spire in time for Christmas, and included in the Worcester News Christmas Eve name listing, please submit your dedication by 14 December 2026.

Lights of Love service and lighting of the tree
This year, our two Lights of Love services will be held at Worcester Cathedral on Friday, 20 November, at 2:30pm and 7pm. Both services will feature music, readings and moments of reflection as we honour the memories of those we miss.
The 7pm evening service will be followed by the Lights of Love tree switch-on at The Spire at 8pm, a moving moment as our tree is illuminated in memory of loved ones.
After the switch-on, attendees are invited to join us for tea and coffee at Heart of Worcestershire College from 8:15pm to 9pm, offering an opportunity to come together and share in remembrance with others.
The services and lighting of the Lights of Love tree are open to all and are free to attend; you do not need to confirm your attendance at either of the services or the switch-on event.

Each year, the lives and memories of cherished loved ones are celebrated with Lights of Love.
Loved ones like Darren Parsons, known as Daz, who died in April, aged 59.
It was Daz’s wish to marry childhood sweetheart, Sally, who he had reconnected with in 2023 after decades apart. With support from hospice teams, he was able to do that while staying on our In-patient Unit.
Sally, 59, explains: “Daz was desperate to get married. We both were. We just wanted to be together. Although we were only married two weeks, it was beautiful.
“Hospice chaplain, Sarah, helped us exchange vows, Tracey from hospitality arranged a wedding cake and the nurses decorated Daz’s room. Andy from family support gathered video messages from some of our favourite bands, knowing music was a big part of our connection.”

But Sally says it isn’t just the extraordinary moments that have stayed with her but the ordinary ones too – the small acts of kindness that happened every day.
“Daz always had a room full of people making him smile. Everyone from the doctors and nurses to the housekeeping team took time to truly get to know him. I don’t think he’d ever felt that kind of love and support before.
“He wrote a poem about his transition from hospital to the hospice where he said hospice care made him feel like a person again. His words were heard. Most poignantly, he described St Richard’s as ‘the jump leads to his body, soul and mind’.
“I will always feel an affinity with this remarkable place.”
