Mrs Ann Price

Ann Price joined the St Richard’s team as secretary to the first paid administrator Peter Tebbit in 1987. Although she was Peter’s secretary, she did ‘a bit of everything’ including greeting visitors, running up to the bank and opening the old St Richard’s collecting tins with a tin opener!

She moved with the team from Castle Street to Rose Hill and continued to work with Peter until he left his post in 1997. When her husband Barney Price was appointed Administrator, Ann decided to retire but she immediately started volunteering for the hospice, which she continues to do to this day.

Mr Barney Price

Barney Price had retired from a successful career as a chartered accountant in industry when he was approached to take on the role of administrator at St Richard’s. He knew all about the hospice from his wife Ann, who was the secretary at that time, but Barney had never worked in the health sector and found the business ‘at a cross roads’, with only enough money in the bank for 4 weeks’ running costs.

Barney is credited with stabilising and restructuring the organisation, putting the finances in order and enabling St Richard’s to make plans for an inpatient unit and launch a capital appeal. Throughout this project, many people have voiced their opinion that Barney was instrumental in turning the hospice’s fortunes around.

He was a key member of the team that got the new hospice built on time and in budget. He retired a proud man in 2006, just before St Richard’s moved to its new home.

Mr Philip Serrell

Worcestershire born and educated Philip is a chartered surveyor and auctioneer. He runs his own sale room in Malvern with an office in Worcester. Philip is also a television broadcasting favourite, regularly appearing on shows such as Bargain Hunt, Antiques Road Trip, Put Your Money… and Flog It! Philip is an active supporter of St Richard’s, frequently giving his services as an auctioneer at events and recently leading a team in the Worcester half marathon which raised over £10,000 towards hospice care.

Professor Richard Lewis

Richard was a Governor of St Richard’s Hospice from 1987 and Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees from 1999 to 2024.
He was appointed as a Consultant Physician with a specialist interest in respiratory medicine in Worcester in 1986, and an honorary Professor of Respiratory Medicine in 2003.

He chaired various St Richard’s Hospice committees including hospice services committees, and a strategy committee which produced a major strategic review in 2015.

This review led to the development of clinical services, and major changes to the hospice building—including the Living Well Centre and The Green—to enhance the space for therapeutic care and support.

Richard initiated and ran the clinic for end-of-life respiratory diseases at the hospice from 2012 to 2016. During the pandemic, he provided regular reports on COVID-19 for the hospice and also for both national and international teams working with COVID-19 throughout the pandemic.

A keen cyclist, Richard undertook two long distance fundraising cycle rides for St Richard’s—Land’s End to John O’Groats in 2006 and a tandem ride from Shetland to Spain in 2021 with his wife Anne, who is a retired local GP. Combined, these challenges raised almost £20,000 for St Richard’s.
